The attractions of the islands Tsuwajijima Island
Tsuwajijima is an island at the western edge of the Kutsuna Islands. The islanders are known as lively people.
About Tsuwajijima Island
Tsuwajijima Island borders Ehime, Yamaguchi and Hiroshima Prefectures. There was once a teahouse of the Matsuyama feudal lords located in the port as a strategic spot in the Seto Inland Sea for lords traveling to Edo. During the autumn festival, the islanders parade festival juggernauts and palanquins around the villages raising loud cheers. Citrus used to be cultivated widely, but in recent years, people are turning to onion growing due to damage to fruit trees by wild boar. Onions grown in sandy soil are less harsh, and the ones grown here are so sweet they can be eaten raw. Flounder and abalone are also farmed here.
