Shinfukuji is a Shingonshu temple in Nagashi district. The Shingonshu sect practices meditation rather than zazen. Nobody will hit you with a stick, and you sit in a relaxed posture, bringing yourself closer to the Buddha. Enjoy a taste of a different world.
With the dharma talk of the priest and the rare experience of meditation, you can learn how to calm your mind. This is true healing !

“If you want to play, you can play with anything” is Hidebo’s motto. Enjoy making pictures out of stones, driftwood, tiles, shells and other materials. Make something that will remind you of Nakajima ! You can also visit Himegahama Beach.
You can look for stones that you like on the beach. Using a canvas of your choice, you can have fun making an original picture, writing what you like using chopsticks or twigs instead of brushes, and adding colour with persimmon juice or coffee.

The landlady of Hozantei leads a tour of Nakajima, visiting various spots and telling the strange and interesting tales of the episodes that took place there.
The landlady gives everybody a warm welcome, making the tour interesting with her stories. In April you can see cherry blossoms and from June to October you can see fiddler crabs. There’s something to enjoy in every season, and there are many repeat visitors.

Amid quiet that can’t be found in town, you can hear the sound of the wind, birdsong, and the whistles of boats. In the restful space of the temple, you can quiet your mind with zazen. After zazen, there’s a lunch of fresh fish at the ryokan. This program improves the wellbeing of both your body and mind.
Zazen experience at the temple about five minutes on foot from the ryokan. From about 20 minutes to 40 or 50 minutes, the priest tailors the experience for each participant. Facing a wall, you focus on your breath and enter a state of deep relaxation without distraction.

Okazaki-san loves the island and the sea, and his Guesthouse is right by the sea on Aijima Island. Okazaki-san says what he likes best about islands is the slow pace. Refresh yourself with the mild air of the island and seafood prepared by a fisherman.
Although Okazaki-san was originally a fisherman, he was surprised at how good the fish of Aijima was. He also never gets tired of the local hijiki, although he eats it every day. Even people from Ehime are surprised by the freshness of the scad, or being able to eat rockfish as sashimi. Everybody on the island is like family. Why don’t you spend a while here and forget time?

You can see traditional houses, and experience the history of the villages and land. Lunch is festival sushi and other food typical of the island. After lunch, you watch the ‘funaodori’ dance, a prefecturally designated Intangible Folk-Cultural Property.
Funaodori is a traditional mime to the unique rhythm of the taiko drum, performed by the young people of the island even today. Enjoy this epic stage performance with flamboyant costumes and dance, with festival sushi.
