The attractions of the islands Nuwajima Island
This is the third biggest of the Kutsuna Islands. It’s one of Ehime Prefecture’s best fishing spots and is visited by many fishermen.
About Nuwajima Island
Situated in the western Kutsuna Islands, there used to be a district called Miyanoura in the north of the island, but today there are only two villages, Kaminuwa on the east side and Motonuwa on the west. There are plenty of people who wish to continue farming, and the island sends students to America to study agriculture. Although it’s known for its lemons and other citrus, in recent years onions have been widely cultivated too. Most of the islanders have fishing licenses and work both in agriculture and fisheries. The waters off the nearby Kojima Kudako Island are famous as one of the best fishing grounds in the Seto Inland Sea, and many people come here to fish sea bream with a rod. The island had many folkloric performing arts, and in the old days their autumn festival was graced with a lion dance, sumo songs, kagura, parades and so on, but now there aren’t enough people.
