Futagamijima is an island at the southwest end of the Kutsuna Islands. It’s long and narrow east to west, and the villages are concentrated on the northern side.
In May 1972, Futagamijima Island was featured in a 26-page article in the world renowned National Geographic Magazine. Afterwards, it appeared in textbooks on world geography in American high schools. It’s presented as an island paradise that hasn’t modernized, where the beauty of traditional Japan remains. The old traditional culture remains as it was, and there are sightseeing spots dotted around among the magnificent natural scenery. Besides citrus cultivation, it’s known as a treasure house of high quality marine products.
