Tamura-san runs a farm by the sea on Gogoshima Island. Here you can experience the natural environment of Gogoshima in each season. There are programs for different sized groups and all ages including harvesting on the farm, gathering shellfish, swimming in the sea, and barbecues. You can do just the farming program or the island food program if you wish.
The standard course is to drive to the various viewpoints around the island with Tamura-san, passing through orange groves, looking at the sea, talking to farmers along the way and encountering the daily life of the island. The homemade island food is made with the excellent local ingredients from the sea and the mountains, and you can prepare it together too.

Everybody works to pull up the dragnet on the nice sandy beach at Aikogahama, and the children cheer to see the fish they’ve caught. The fish are prepared as sashimi or barbecue, stewed or tempura according to request. The beach is surrounded by tables loaded with fresh seafood.
The feeling of community in working to pull in the nets, and the impression of the freshly caught fish is unforgettable. Adults won’t be able to keep up with the children when they discover how good fresh seafood really tastes. The beach house has showers and toilets, so you can also enjoy swimming in the sea and gathering shellfish.

The nets may contain threadsail filefish, octopus, squid, marbled rockfish and sometimes shark. Wondering what you’ll catch is half the fun. After experiencing dragnet fishing, there’s a barbecue with abalone, oysters, and turban shells. You can enjoy swimming in the sea, gathering shellfish and other seaside pursuits.
If large fish are caught, they’re prepared as sashimi right away. The sea bream and octopus rice prepared by the organizers is also popular. Besides enjoying the fish you catch cooked on the barbecue, you can also take it home with you in the cooler bags provided.

Try your hand at rod fishing with a man of the sea. The fishing boat heads out about 2.5 km from the island close to Koaishima Island, moving around in search of rockfish, scad and sea bream. Handling the rod is very satisfying, and once you start fishing, the time flies by.
Fishing from a boat in the rich fishing grounds of Aijima is also fun for children, and many families enjoy this program. The grand views you get travelling in the boat are another pleasure, and you can also ask to have your fish cooked at the inn. Tours without fishing are also available.

Mizubanohama beach on Aijima with its fine sand and gentle waves is a little-known spot. In addition to working together to pull in the dragnet and enjoying harvesting and barbecuing the fish, you can also swim in the sea and gather shellfish. Fun for all the family!
This is a popular annual event. It feels special to grill fish freshly caught right there, and hijiki rice made with hijiki produced around Aijima Island is a big favourite. A resident of the island will take you to see Aijima’s Shinto and Buddhist shrines.
