Tsurushima is an island located about 5 km from Takahama port. It’s shaped like a gourd and is about 2.6 km around. It has the first lighthouse built in Ehime Prefecture
This was grazing land for the Matsuyama Domain in the Edo period, and at the end of the Edo period, people moved here from Gogoshima Island to form the first villages. Most of the island is sloping making it perfect for growing mandarins, iyokan, and lemons. From the accessible farm roads you can look down on the blue sea and islands of Setouchi. The main industry apart from citrus is octopus fishing and you can see lots of octopus pots around the island. Many fishermen come to the good fishing grounds around the island.
