Muzukijima Island is in the eastern Kutsuna Islands, about 30 to 45 minutes by ferry from the port in the suburbs of Matsuyama. Go to the port by train from Matsuyama City Station and take the eastern ferry.
From Mitsuhama port
Take the Iyotetsu Takahama Line from Matsuyama City Station to Mitsu Station (13 minutes). Go out of Mitsu Station and walk to Mitsuhama port (about 15 minutes). Take the eastern ferry. It takes about 45 minutes to Muzuki port.
From Takahama port
Take the Iyotetsu Takahama Line from Matsuyama City Station to Takahama Station (21 minutes). Takahama port is right in front of the station. Take the eastern ferry. It takes about 30 minutes to Muzuki port. A high speed boat also goes from Takahama port.
It takes 3 minutes on foot from Muzuki port to the Skyline eastern
route and 10 minutes to the western route.
The gentle paved farm track that forms a figure of eight around the two mountains in the east and west of the mountain is ideal for hiking. The mountain path with its views over the mandarin groves to the sea and small islands is called Skyline. There are two mini pilgrimage trails, of about 9 km in the west and about 7 km in the west, and the roadside Buddhas soothe the spirit. Walking at an easy pace, it takes about three hours by either route. Where the figure of eight crosses you can return to the port.
The superb views are seemingly endless. The ups and downs are only steep at the beginning and end of the course. The rest is largely flat. It’s recommended to get up early and do the Skyline in the morning.
The western route leaves the port and as you follow it west around the coast, it starts to climb. The eastern route leaves the port and starts to climb with the post office on the left.

Two fishermen started the restaurant with the aim of introducing seasonal food not found in shops, and there are many repeat visitors from Ehime. Enjoy the deliciousness of the freshly caught fish, thanks to the judgment of the fisherman and the skill of the chef.
The menu includes grilled turban shells, sashimi, stewed fish, fried fish, and other seafood. In summer, the sashimi includes righteye flounder, sea perch and greenling, and from autumn to winter, amberjack, yellowtail, scad and flounder. The best fish is offered according to the season.

If you walk through the villages of Muzuki, you can see traditional houses. The people of Muzukijima Island used to peddle Ehime’s iyokasuri textiles around the country until the middle of the 20th century, and there are rows of large houses of people who made their fortunes. To the east of the port there are numerous traditional houses with magnificent gated entranceways. The village around the port has many narrow lanes, which are ideal for strolling.
Go in search of scenery that can only be found here. Turn the corner of a lane, and you suddenly encounter a house with lattice windows or a delicately crafted doorway. If the door of the gatehouse is closed, it looks like a large house, but beyond the gate is garden beyond which is the main building of the house. This stout structure protected the house against storms, and you can sense the history of the islanders who coexisted with nature.
